Food Bank

What are we? Wimbledon Foodbank will be part of a national network of foodbanks, giving out nutritionally balanced emergency food to people in crisis who have nowhere else to turn. When a person has no financial safety net, a sudden crisis, such as a bereavement or benefits delay, redundancy or illness, can leave that person unable to feed themselves or their family. Such a situation can deteriorate quickly leading to relationship breakdown, house repossession or worse. Wimbledon Foodbank aims to support people who find themselves on the edge of disaster.
How does it work? Food will be donated by the people of Wimbledon and surrounding area. Front-line care professionals identify people in crisis and give them a voucher. Production of the voucher at the Foodbank will entitle people to a warm welcome, a hot drink and a choice of foodstuffs to keep them going for three days. The Foodbank will put people in touch with agencies who can help resolve the underlying issues, and provide food boxes to other charities and agencies for their clients with immediate needs. The Wimbledon foodbank will operate every Monday and Thursday between 12 noon and 2pm, commencing on Monday 31st October 2011.
