Youth Mentoring - Launched 9th May 2009. Mentoring at Elim Wimbledon is a dynamic relationship of trust and encouragement in which an adult member enables a youth to maximize their potential. Our focus in the youth mentoring process is to help them grow in all aspects of their lives - recognising that our youths are our future leaders.
One of the challenges every Christian community faces is the faith development of young people. There are a number of needs that we seek to meet for our youths:
- Help youths to grow spiritually so that they take responsibility and ownership of their own faith
- Give them a sense of belonging within the church and wider Christian community
- Be alongside youths as they transition to adulthood, breaking the barrier between them and us. Developing their own personal identity is a struggle many young people encounter through their adolescent years
The objectives of this mentoring relationship are:
-
To develop spiritual growth of young people
-
To see young people move on and progress
-
To build confidence of youths and discuss new ideas / options in situations
The role of the Mentor:
-
Aid spiritual development of youth
-
Share knowledge, skills and experience to help youths' progress
-
Be a great encouragement - listen, coach and advise
-
Pray for youth
There are clearly defined steps in our mentoring process. Mentors, youths and parents jointly agree and show commitment to the scheme.
